SHIPMENTS OF HUD-CODE HOMES DOWN 7.8% IN JUNE 2006

Arlington, VA, August 7, 2006—The Manufactured Housing Institute’s actual shipments report indicates that 10,995 new HUD-Code homes were shipped in June 2006, down 7.8 percent compared to June 2005. Year-over-year, shipments of single-section homes were down 3.4 percent while shipments of multi-section homes were down 9.3 percent.

Through June, shipments were up 1.7 percent compared to 2005. Over that period, single-section homes were up 22.6 percent and multi-section homes were down 4.7 percent.

In June, shipments were up in two Census Divisions and down in seven, year-over-year. Shipments were up in the West South Central (27.7 percent), East South Central (8.8 percent) Divisions. Shipments were down in the Middle Atlantic (-27.2 percent), West North Central (-24.6 percent), East North Central (-21.9 percent), South Atlantic (-21.6 percent), Mountain (-14.2 percent), New England (-11.3 percent) and Pacific (-9.4 percent) Divisions.

June shipments were up in 11 states, down in 31 states and flat in 7 states, year-over-year. In June, shipments were up in Mississippi (106.2 percent), Louisiana (72.4 percent), Wyoming (47.1 percent), New Mexico (40.2 percent), Texas (22.4 percent), Montana (15.1 percent), Georgia (12.9 percent), Idaho (12.3 percent), Washington (12.2 percent), Wisconsin (11.6 percent), and Oklahoma (6.8 percent).

Shipments were down in Rhode Island (-85.7 percent), Colorado (-77.4 percent), New Jersey (-61.1 percent), Indiana (-39.7 percent), Michigan (-40.2 percent), Nebraska (-40.0 percent), Nevada (-17.6 percent), Kansas (-39.4 percent), Florida (-36.6 percent), Missouri (-36.1 percent), Pennsylvania (-33.8 percent), North Dakota (-27.3 percent), Utah (-25.2 percent), Tennessee (-24.9 percent), Massachusetts (-24.4 percent), North Carolina (-22.1 percent), Ohio (-20.5 percent), Connecticut (-17.1 percent), California (-16.6 percent), New Hampshire (-15.4 percent) South Dakota (-13.2), Virginia (-11.2 percent), New York (-11.0 percent), Arizona (-10.4 percent), West Virginia (-9.8 percent), Kentucky (-8.2 percent), Arkansas (-8.1 percent), South Carolina (-7.9 percent), Illinois (-6.6 percent), Minnesota (-6.3 percent) and Alabama (-2.6 percent). Shipments were essentially unchanged in Vermont, Oregon, Maryland, Delaware, Iowa, Maine, and Alaska.

Total floors shipped in June were 19,587, down 8.0 percent from June 2005. The number of reporting plants for March was 220, unchanged from May. The number of corporations was also unchanged at 69. More details will be forthcoming in MHI’s Monthly Economic Report for June.
